Does Aladdin have a crypto trading platform?

Mutual customers of Coinbase and BlackRock’s investment management platform, Aladdin, will have access to crypto trading, custody, prime brokerage and reporting capabilities, according to a blog post Thursday. Will Blackrock be able to trade cryptocurrency through Aladdin?

One of the people said BlackRock will allow its clients – which include public pension schemes, endowments and sovereign wealth funds – to trade cryptocurrency through Aladdin (short for “Asset, Liability, Debt and Derivative Investment Network”), the asset manager’s integrated investment management platform.

Will Aladdin & Coinbase be able to manage bitcoin exposures?

“Common clients of Aladdin and Coinbase will be able to manage their bitcoin exposures alongside their public and private investments for a whole-portfolio view of risk,” BlackRock wrote in an announcement. The news marks a major shift for BlackRock, whose chairman Larry Fink called bitcoin an “index of money laundering” five years ago.
